Charter a boat to Formentera

Most Formentera charters originate on Ibiza — Marina Botafoch or Ibiza Town. The journey itself is part of the experience. La Savina (Formentera's only port) has a small but excellent local fleet for half-day Espalmador trips and small no-licence boats you can pilot yourself. Italian is the dominant charter language here in summer.

Best for

  • Day-trips from Ibiza — the canonical Espalmador + Ses Illetes loop
  • No-licence boat rental from La Savina (under 6m, 15hp — perfect for couples)
  • Italian luxury motor yacht charter with crew (the dominant peak-summer market)
  • Multi-day Balearic island-hopping (Mallorca → Cabrera → Formentera → Ibiza)

Popular routes

  • La Savina → Espalmador → Ses Illetes → back (half-day, no-licence boat possible)
  • Marina Botafoch (Ibiza) → Espalmador → lunch on Ses Illetes → return (day from Ibiza)
  • La Savina → Cala Saona → Cap de Barbaria (sunset, requires skippered)
  • La Savina → Cala Codolar (Ibiza) → Cala d'Hort → return (full day)

Practical notes

No-licence boats (under 6m, ≤15hp): no certification needed, perfect for Espalmador half-day. Italian is widely spoken at La Savina charter desks. Summer rates 4-6x off-season — book by January for July-August. Espalmador anchoring is restricted (marine reserve); operators have current rules. Strong meltemi-style winds from May-September — afternoon sails often canceled.

Where to book

Loved the day on the water?

Most foreign buyers in the Balearics own a boat or charter regularly. The properties with private moorings or marina access are a small slice of the market — we'll surface them.
